What
issues concerning my health are there ?
What issues concerning my health are there ? Generally speaking, no special vaccinations or inoculations are required coming into South Africa. We hunt mainly in a Malaria free environment except for Mozambique, and if the need arises to move into a malaria area, you will be informed well in advance. Tap water is safe through most of the country, but some visitors prefer to drink the many excellent local bottled or imported mineral waters that are readily available. The African sun can be dangerous, so wear a hat and use the right sun block
What is the climate like ?
Africa has a wide range of climate zones, although generally it may be considered to have a moderate climate.Hunting is mostly done during the winter months from April to October, so you´ll be dealing with temperatures between 10°C/50°F and 32°C/100°F.
Is it safe to come to South Africa
?
Crime and security in South Africa are much debated both locally and by the international media. The rule of thumb here as it is anywhere else in the world that does not have a crime record is - being careful. The answer is YES. Motsomi will not take you to any hot spots and out in the bush there is virtually no crime at all.
What clothing should I bring ?
See List of stuff to bring along
What type of terrain will I
be hunting in ?
It depends on the game being hunted. In SA we hunt mostly in acacia type thick bushveld with lots of thorn trees and Maroela trees and sometimes hilly terrain.Mozambique consists of more open savannah with large trees and Iron wood forests to shrub Mopanie that could become thick, no swamps
What happen with the meat of the
game I shot ?
It would be used for some of the meals in the lodge, the rest would be used by the staff or sold to be processed for the consumer market. Nothing gets wasted not even the intestines
How may I pay in South Africa ?
The South African currency is the Rand. It is divided into cents. It is advisable, as it is anywhere in the world, to use travelers cheques as far as possible and not to carry too large amounts of cash. All major travelers cheques are widely exchangeable, including American Express and Thomas Cook. All major credit cards are also usable, including American Express, MasterCard and Visa. Most major banks exchange travelers cheques for cash. ATMs (Automatic Teller machines) are virtually everywhere for credit card use, and there are Bureau de Change in all airports and major centers. Motsomi accepts travelers & personal cheques(by arrangement), cash and bank drafts as payment, unfortunately no credit cards.Remember that the South African Rand is a fairly volatile currency and the exchange rate tends to change on a daily basis.

What about bringing my own rifle
?
For a minor fee PHASA will have your rifle importation permits done before you arrive which we strongly recommend. This is an easy process.Below is a brief summary of what you will need to have your permit pre-approved. Hunters bringing firearms into South Africa for hunting purposes should download a copy of the Temporary Firearm Import Application -SAP 520 and complete this form before arrival in South Africa. How to fill out the SAP520 This is essential to help streamline the entry process. The form must be completed in black ink.Required along with the SAP 520 will be the following:1. Passport2. Airline Ticket3. Proof of Ownership, i.e. firearm licenses, etc.4. Contact details for client while in South Africa. 5. A letter from Motsomi with all our details. This information is necessary for the actual Temporary Import Permit, as well as if the police need to be in contact with you for any reason. Firearms will be physically inspected to ensure the serial numbers match those of the licenses and the application forms. Ammunition will also be inspected, and it is important to note that this ammunition also requires a permit.
Also, please ensure that your firearms arrive on the same flight as you do. You and no one else may sign for your firearms. Please do not pay for any service regarding the handling of a firearm at the airport, this is a free service . Please note however that there is a handling fee charged by airlines and/or security companies for the handling of handguns.Temporary Import Permits are issued for a period of 90 or 180 days. When you depart from the country, you MUST take all your firearms as stated on the Import Permit with you. Permits will only be issued for ammunition that is accompanied by a firearm of the same caliber.Temporary Import Permits will not be issued for anyone under the age of 21.
